Judy's bar in Jing'An District

Judy's Bar and Club is one of Shanghai's two well-known pickup bars. In 2016 it moved from its old spot near Nanjing Road to within sight of Manhattan's — convenient for bar-hoppers, as you can see one club from the door of the other. It runs a similar concept to its famous neighbour and has steadily grown in popularity. Most of the working girls at Judy's are Vietnamese, some Cambodian, and there are usually a few non-Asian girls around as well, African girls for example.

Judy's also regularly features Russian go-go dancers. They are not officially on the menu, though rumour has it they are available at three to four times the going rate.

Girls aside, Judy's is simply a good night out: a live band plays daily until around midnight, after which a DJ takes over, and the dance shows are worth watching in their own right. Small snacks are served inside, and the little shop at the entrance sells pizza until the early morning. Drinks and food are somewhat overpriced compared with similar venues, but with everything going on around you, still worth it.

Opening hours

Judy's is open daily from 7 PM until around 6 AM the next morning, with live music from about 9 PM to midnight.

Tip: for a pickup, the best window is roughly 23:30 to midnight — by then most girls have arrived, and the best ones have not yet been taken.

铜仁路/南阳路 — Tóngrén Lù / Nányáng Lù

A warning about the taxis lined up in front of the bar: the first two to four cars are usually unlicensed and will overcharge you. Walk a few meters up the street and call a Didi instead.
